A Fiery History

The extraordinary cabin at J-Star Ranch is built out of logs that were impacted by the great Yellowstone Fire of 1988. Each log was carefully selected and harvested, stripped of all bark by hand using a two-handled draw knife, and finally finished/shaped using a hand ax. The logs were then placed on top of one another in jigsaw-fashion to form walls; with the entire process taking more than 3 years. Each log showcases unique knots and burls, making every wall a true piece of artwork. The cabin sits perfectly secluded in a wooded forest, surrounded by mature trees and the sounds of Rock Creek flowing nearby.

 

The cabin was thoughtfully updated in 2022 with special vacations / staycations in mind. It is fully equipped with everything that one might need, and guests can expect to bathe in luxury throughout their entire stay. The goal at J-Star Ranch is to deliver a Montana vacation that you will never forget and leaves you excited for your next visit back!

The beds are so comfortable and we had everything we needed in the fully stocked kitchen. If you are looking for a quiet getaway in the mountains, this is THE place! And only a few minutes from Red Lodge! Nothing but perfection at this home!"

The Amenities

KITCHEN & DINING

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything needed to prepare meals, eat / enjoy, and clean up. This includes:

  • Refrigerator & freezer (with ice-maker), oven, range, dishwasher, and microwave.​

  • Blender, toaster, and hand-mixer.

  • Keurig coffee maker, stocked with medium or dark roast k-cups.

  • Essential cookware, including pots & pans, baking sheets, cutting boards, mixing bowls, and more!

  • Silverware, dish-ware and glassware for 8 people. Coffee cups and wine glasses included, of course.

  • Salt, pepper, olive oil, cooking oil, and a pay-it-forward panty with several additional seasonings and spices.

  • Tinfoil, plastic wrap, and Ziploc bags.

  • Cleaning products: Dish soap, fresh sponge, dishwasher detergent, paper towels, disinfecting wipes, and garbage bags.

The grand dining area showcases vaulted ceilings, a beautiful antler chandelier, and a solid wood dining table with seating for 8. A breakfast bar also serves as the perfect place to enjoy morning coffee or visit with those cooking in the kitchen, with additional seating for 4.

LIVING

The living room is open to the kitchen and dining area and allows for guests to comfortably converse and mingle. The floor-to-ceiling windows accentuate the natural beauty that surrounds. Here, guests can enjoy:

  • Buttery leather sofa and loveseat.

  • Uncle Buck's wooden rocking chair.

  • Wood pellet stove (pellets stocked).

  • Hand-carved chess table with two oversize chairs.

  • Cozy throw blankets.

  • Wi-Fi

BED

Each of the three bedrooms at J-Star Ranch were tastefully designed and fully furnished with comfort and relaxation in mind. Every room features a memory foam king-sized mattress, as well as:

  • Soft, high-end linens.

  • Smart television with DirectTV service. 

  • Luggage rack.

  • Pedestal fan.

  • *Ceiling fan.

  • *Keurig coffee maker, stocked with either medium or dark roast k-cups.

  • *Work space.

BATH

There are two bathrooms in the cabin at J-Star Ranch; one on the main level and one upstairs in the Primary Suite. Both bathrooms were designed to encompass a clean, luxurious feel, while still tying in elements of a traditional log cabin. In each bathroom, guests will find:

  • Walk-in, tiled shower.

  • Luxury bath linens, including bath sheets, hand towels, and washcloths.

  • Hand soap and lotion.

  • Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

  • Hair dryer.

  • *Built in bluetooth speaker (main level bath only).

LOFT

The loft is open to the downstairs living area and serves as a cozy place to read a book and soak in the views from the two-story windows. The loft also has additional sleeping space for 2.

  • Twin daybed with trundle pullout for additional sleeping.

  • Oversize leather chair and throw blanket.

  • Games and books.

LAUNDRY

The laundry room is a critical place for those traveling for long periods of time, those traveling with kids, or really just those in general! The laundry room features a brand-new (2022) full-size washer and dryer, as well as:

  • Laundry detergent and dryer sheets.

  • Stain remover.

  • Clorox bleach.

  • Vacuum cleaner.

  • Broom and dustpan.

  • First-Aid Kit.

OUTDOOR

The grounds of J-Star Ranch serve as the perfect place to view Montana sunrises and sunsets, listen to the sounds of nature, and embrace the solitude that comes with being tucked away in the trees. There are several spaces on the property designed for making outdoor living easy, including:

  • Wrap-Around Deck

    • Large hot tub.

    • Weber gas BBQ grill.​

    • Lounge furniture.

    • Outdoor dining table with seating for 8.

  • Gazebo

    • Lounge furniture (seating for 8 and side-tables for drinks and appetizers).

    • Propane fire pit.​

    • String lights.

    • Hanging plants (seasonally).

    • Traditional fire pit stocked with cords of firewood.​
